Baseball Game Preview: Tooele Buffaloes vs. Park City Miners

Tooele is 2-8 against Park City since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Tooele will be playing at home against Park City at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tooele is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since March 26, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Grantsville, sneaking past 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Buffaloes in their matchups with the Cowboys: they've now won four in a row.

The team relied heavily on Reeder Conger, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madex Vonhatten, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Park City had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Soaring Eagle. That's two games straight that the Miners have won by exactly five runs.

Justin Michaelis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Cameron Nester was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base.

Park City's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Tooele, their victory bumped their record up to 3-9.

Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tooele hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Park City struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Tooele skirted past Park City 6-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Tooele repeat their success, or does Park City has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
