Basketball Recap: Astoria/VIT Falls Despite Big Games from Hannah Horwedel and Preslea Parker

After flying high against Bushnell-Prairie City last Monday, Astoria/VIT came back down to earth. The Astoria/VIT Rebels fell 43-36 to the Elmwood Trojans on Thursday. The Rebels have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Preslea Parker and Hannah Horwedel certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Parker dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, while Horwedel posted ten points and four steals. What's more, Parker also racked up three steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2024.

Astoria/VIT's loss dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Elmwood, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-11.

Astoria/VIT and Elmwood could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Astoria/VIT (ranked 617th) will meet Monmouth United (ranked 129th) on Saturday. Meanwhile, Elmwood will square off against Deer Creek-Mackinaw at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday down 217 places (285 vs. 68).
