Softball Recap: West Milford Comes Up Short

West Milford fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Passaic Valley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 5-4. The Highlanders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Alexandra Gruber was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassy Rubinsky, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

West Milford has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Passaic Valley, the win keeps they at an undefeated 6-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Milford will welcome Wayne Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Passaic Valley, they will take on Clifton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
