Football Game Preview: Richton Rebels vs. Newton Tigers

Two dominant backs in B.J. Brown and Tazayvion Townsend are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Richton Rebels will head out to face off against the Newton Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Richton is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Richton is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Taylorsville on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Rebels came up short against the Tartars, falling 38-12. The Rebels were down 32-6 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, after only six points in their last contest, Newton made sure to put some points up on the board against Puckett on Friday. The Tigers claimed a resounding 42-8 win over the Wolves. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Richton better focus on containing Jymarques Holder and Daishon Moncrief as the pair were huge in Newton's win. Holder rushed for 100 yards and one TD on only seven carries, while Moncrief rushed for 54 yards and a pair of scores. Those 54 rushing yards gave Moncrief a new career-high.

Newton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Richton now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Newton, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-7.
