Baseball Recap: Litchfield Takes a Loss

Litchfield extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-11 in the process. They came up short against the Morenci Bulldogs, falling 18-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 28-7 on Monday.

As for Morenci, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 23.0 runs over those games.

For Morenci's part, Jonas Castillo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Castillo also tossed a walk, which is notable because Morenci is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-10-1 otherwise. Castillo was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wyatt Stevens was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Morenci is undefeated when Stevens posts two or more runs, but 4-11-1 otherwise. Talan Kruse was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Litchfield will challenge Pittsford at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.1 runs per game on average), something the Terriers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Morenci, they will head out to square off against Camden-Frontier at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
