The Coronado Cougars will challenge the Green Valley Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coronado will be looking to extend their current 19-game winning streak.
Coronado is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Foothill, who was ranked eighth at the time (Coronado was ranked first). The Cougars came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 3-1 on Thursday.
Coronado had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 26-24.
Meanwhile, Green Valley came up short against Arbor View on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Gators haven't had much luck with the Aggies recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
While Green Valley ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17.
Green Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 16-20. As for Coronado, they pushed their record up to 35-2 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Coronado has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Green Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Coronado was able to grind out a solid win over Green Valley in their previous meeting back in April, winning 3-1. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
