Baseball Recap: Austin Takes a Loss

Austin had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-23 to make it 13. They lost 14-0 to the Irvin Rockets. Panthers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Rockets since Friday.

As for Irvin, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-12-1. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 3rd (when they won 17-1).

For Irvin's part, Anthony Badajosa made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Badajosa has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three doubles, and two RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Rivera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Chacon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While Austin had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
