Basketball Recap: Merritt Island Comes Up Short

Merritt Island lost against Eau Gallie back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Merritt Island Mustangs took a 39-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eau Gallie Commodores.

When it comes to explaining why Merritt Island lost, don't look at Alexis Underwood. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points and six steals. Underwood is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.

Brhooke Eckman was the offensive standout of the matchup as she went 9 for 15 on her way to 19 points. Those 19 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adryana Jones, who scored ten points.

Merritt Island's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Eau Gallie, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-14.

Merritt Island didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 43-23 loss against Rockledge on the 27th. Eau Gallie has also already played their next game, a 32-27 win against Titusville on the 27th.
