Baseball Recap: Northern Durham Beats East Chapel Hill for Their Third Straight Victory

Northern Durham had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt East Chapel Hill on Thursday. Northern Durham was the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over East Chapel Hill. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Knights have posted against the Wildcats since April 22, 2022.

Koby Owens was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Northern Durham is 3-1 when Owens allowsthree or fewer earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Owens was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Owens wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Wilkins, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5. Wilkins is becoming a predictor of Northern Durham's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Nolan Bischoff was another, scoring a run and stealing a base.

The victory was the third in a row for Northern Durham, bringing their record up to 5-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for East Chapel Hill, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northern Durham will be taking part in a tournament against Voyager Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Voyager Academy will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Northern Durham surely won't give up without a fight. As for East Chapel Hill, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jordan at 5:00 p.m. on April 8.
