Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. Clemens Buffaloes
New Braunfels has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge The Clemens Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, New Braunfels took their match at home with ease, bagging a 38-10 victory over East Central. Given New Braunfels' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 185th, while East Central is ranked 493rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tyree Johnson got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 335 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per carry. Johnson's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards. Cole Redding got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Clemens was able to grind out a solid victory over Judson on Thursday, taking the game 24-17. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Clemens.
New Braunfels' victory on Friday bumped their record up to 3-4. Clemens has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.
New Braunfels strolled past Clemens in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 38-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Braunfels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
