Recap: Meyersdale Red Raiders vs. North Star Cougars
The Meyersdale Red Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 87-47 defeat at the hands of North Star. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Meyersdale in their matchups with North Star: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the defeat, Meyersdale had strong showings from Ryan Sechler, who scored 14 points, and Matthew Hainsworth, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Carter Vogt, who scored six points.
Leading North Star to victory were Andy Retassie and Brady Weimer. Retassie scored 16 points along with eight assists and five rebounds, while Weimer scored 27 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. The game was Weimer's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Smith, who scored eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Meyersdale's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for North Star, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Meyersdale will head out on the road to face off against Windber at 7:15 p.m. on January 16th. As for North Star, they will be playing at home against Rockwood at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Rockwood is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
