Basketball Game Preview: Copper Basin Cougars vs. Gilmer Bobcats

Copper Basin is 0-6 against Gilmer since November of 2014 but things could change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Copper Basin Cougars duke it out with the Gilmer Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Copper Basin is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They took a blow against Fannin County, falling 73-31. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Gilmer scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell to Lumpkin County 75-71. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Copper Basin will have to keep a close watch on Jd Taylor and Keegen Bryant, a pair of players who had a big impact on Gilmer's prior game. Taylor went 11 of 20 en route to 27 points along with five assists and five steals, while Bryant went 10 of 21 en route to 24 points. The contest was Taylor's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Farmer, who posted five points and three steals.

Gilmer now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Copper Basin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Copper Basin was dealt a bruising 79-44 defeat at the hands of Gilmer in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Copper Basin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
