Softball Game Preview: Cuthbertson Cavaliers vs. Marvin Ridge Mavericks

Cuthbertson hasn't had much luck against Marvin Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will host the Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cuthbertson comes in on three and Marvin Ridge on four.

While Cuthbertson's victory against Sun Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cavaliers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Spartans 7-6.

Grace Murray was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Alexis Juhl was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Caroline Petroff, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

Cuthbertson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sun Valley struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Marvin Ridge earned a 7-2 victory over Porter Ridge on Friday.

Marvin Ridge pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Cuthbertson, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.

Cuthbertson was able to grind out a solid victory over Marvin Ridge when the teams last played back in March, winning 9-6. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
