Baseball Recap: 17 Straight Home Wins for Sumrall

Sumrall waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Taylorsville Tartars a 12-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-2 last Thursday.

Drew Davis was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, Landon Hawkins was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Odom, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Sumrall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.2.

Sumrall pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Taylorsville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Sumrall will welcome Wayne County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Taylorsville, they will face off against Newton County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
