Softball Game Preview: Blacksburg Wildcats vs. Liberty Red Devils

Blacksburg has gone 6-1 against Liberty recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wildcats will host the Red Devils at 6:00 p.m. Blacksburg is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

On Tuesday, Blacksburg needed a bit of extra time to put away Landrum. They blew past the Cardinals 13-7. Considering the Wildcats have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nyla Sarratt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Blacksburg got a massive performance out of Taylor Tessner, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Tessner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Caraway, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Blacksburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Liberty came up short against J.L. Mann on Wednesday and fell 5-1. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Blacksburg, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.

Blacksburg skirted past Liberty 2-0 in their previous meeting back in March. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
