Softball Recap: Portola Gets the Win

Portola's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Hamilton Braves 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against the Braves on Friday, they had to take a 9-2 defeat.

Clara Klemesrud spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Pucca Bautista was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 contests. Tuscany Duncan also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Portola is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Hamilton, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-8.

Portola and Hamilton will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Tigers see the field they'll take on Quincy at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Hamilton, their break will end when they face Biggs at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th.
