Basketball Recap: Cleveland Hill Takes a Loss

Cleveland Hill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 74-39 loss at the hands of the Eden Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 874th, while the Raiders are ranked 368th).

Cleveland Hill's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Javier Nelson, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds, and Douglas Hunt, who put up eight points and six boards. That was a full 43.6% of Cleveland Hill's points, marking the third time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Cleveland Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 28 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eden to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chris Krencik, who went 7 for 13 to rack up 20 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Krencik a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobe Genco, who went 8 of 14 en route to 19 points and five assists.

Cleveland Hill's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Eden, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

While Cleveland Hill had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
