Baseball Recap: Crawford's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Crawford had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Hoover Cardinals on Thursday. The Colts not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 17th (when they won 21-2).

Abbel Martinez and Adam Carrillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Martinez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Carrillo pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Crawford is 2-1 when Martinez allows one or fewer hits, but 4-12 otherwise. At bat, Martinez went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Carrillo went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Carrillo a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amare Patterson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Jacob Valdez was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Crawford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Crawford's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-13. As for Hoover, they dropped their record down to 6-17 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

The teams wasted no time getting back out on the field as they've already faced off again: they played to a 14-14 tie on Friday.
