Preview: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Crystal River Pirates
The Weeki Wachee Hornets will take on the Crystal River Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Weeki Wachee scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Hudson 78-23 at home. Weeki Wachee has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 29 points or more this season.
Paige Atwater continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 40 points along with four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Weeki Wachee's points. Joelys Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, with a playoff game on the line, Crystal River rose to the challenge on Monday. They came out on top against the Sharks by a score of 47-38. The win was some much needed relief for Crystal River as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Weeki Wachee pushed their record up to 17-8 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Crystal River, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.
Everything came up roses for Weeki Wachee against Crystal River in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 68-14 win. With Weeki Wachee ahead 43-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
