Baseball Game Preview: Durham Academy Cavaliers vs. Ravenscroft Ravens

The Durham Academy Cavaliers will challenge the Ravenscroft Ravens at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Durham Academy is looking for their season's first victory.

Durham Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 12-7 to Jordan last Thursday.

Amare Burrus was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Benjamin Kuo, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Ravenscroft and Wake Christian Academy, and Ravenscroft kept the tradition alive. Ravenscroft walked away with a 6-1 win over Wake Christian Academy on Friday.

Matthew Hutter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Matt Ulicny was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Ravenscroft's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Holt, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Ravenscroft's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. As for Durham Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Durham Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ravenscroft struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Durham Academy suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Ravenscroft in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Durham Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
