Basketball Recap: Tanque Verde Comes Up Short

Tanque Verde was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against the Sunnyside Blue Devils, falling 69-13. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 13th).

Sunnyside's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annabelle Quiroga, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals. Quiroga is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Gonzales, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points.

Tanque Verde's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Sunnyside, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Tanque Verde didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-17 loss against Canyon del Oro on the 27th. As for Sunnyside, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 58-21 victory against Sabino on the 27th.
