Softball Game Preview: Owensboro Catholic Aces vs. Apollo Eagles

The Owensboro Catholic Aces will challenge the Apollo Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Sunday, Owensboro Catholic needed a bit of extra time to put away Owensboro. They skirted past the Red Devils 13-12. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Aces as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Railey Scott tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits.

At the plate, Owensboro Catholic got a massive performance out of Carley Brey, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Brey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Logsdon, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Apollo was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They won by a run and slipped past Owensboro 4-3. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Arianna Ramirez, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Apollo and bumps their season record up to 8-11. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Owensboro Catholic, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-11.
