Baseball Recap: Maine South Find Success

Riverside-Brookfield typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Maine South proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 4-2. This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 3-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Jack Gianikos looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He is becoming a predictor of Maine South's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 12-13 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luka Stojakovic, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Maine South: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 12-14 otherwise.

Maine South now has a winning record of 15-14. As for Riverside-Brookfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-10 record this season.

Maine South will welcome Evanston at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Riverside-Brookfield, they will venture away from home to square off against Glenbard South at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
