Basketball Game Preview: Skyline Coyotes vs. Reno Huskies

The Skyline Coyotes will be taking part in a tournament against the Reno Huskies at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Skyline barely beat West Point the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Coyotes blew past the Dragons 54-20 on Friday. That 34 point margin sets a new team best for the Coyotes this season.

Skyline's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordan Seiuli, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. Seiuli has become a key player for the Coyotes: the team is 3-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 1-4 otherwise. Kaylee Cole was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Meanwhile, Reno is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Grants Pass. The Huskies put the hurt on the Cavemen with a sharp 66-43 win. Fans of the Huskies have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Skyline better keep an eye on Violet Gordon. She was instrumental in Reno's win, shooting 44% from the field to rack up 29 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those 29 points gave Gordon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brookesly Wilson, who posted 16 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.

Reno smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Reno pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Skyline, their record now sits at 4-5.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Skyline has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Reno struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36 rebounds.
