Softball Recap: Lake Arthur Drops Season-High Score on Abbeville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Arthur). They were the clear victor by an 18-5 margin over the Abbeville Wildcats on Saturday. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.

Layla Gauthier made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gauthier was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Miraya Thibodeaux and Kenli Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Thibodeaux scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Garcia scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. What's more, Thibodeaux posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Abshire, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-2.

Lake Arthur was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Abbeville only posted a batting average of .211.

The victory (which was Lake Arthur's third in a row) raised their record to 5-5. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.57 in the others. As for Abbeville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Lake Arthur Tigers face off against Starks Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Arthur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Abbeville, they will face off against Port Barre at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Abbeville has given up an average of 12.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
