Softball Game Preview: Broaddus Bulldogs vs. Martinsville Pirates

The Broaddus Bulldogs will head out to face off against the Martinsville Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Broaddus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Friday. Broaddus blew past Garrison 20-1. The high-scoring effort was just what Broaddus needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Laila Holloway was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zaida Duarte, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Macie Cook also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Broaddus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Martinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Joaquin, falling 21-0.

Broaddus' record is now 2-3-1. As for Martinsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Broaddus might still be hurting after the 34-1 loss they got from Martinsville when the teams last played back in March of 2017. Can Broaddus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
