Softball Recap: Curtis Vikings vs. South Kitsap Wolves
Curtis extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-17 in the process. They lost 16-3 to the South Kitsap Wolves. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-1 back in March.
Curtis saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Woodall, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
As for South Kitsap, their record is now 7-9. They not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 27-4).
On South Kitsap's side, Joci Lee made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Lee has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maleah Sawyers, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 2nd. Eva Spencer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Coincidentally, Curtis and South Kitsap will both be playing Sumner the next time they take the field. The Wolves will head out to face the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Vikings will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
