Recap: Cairo Syrupmakers vs. Westover Patriots
It was a good run, but the Cairo Syrupmakers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westover. If Cairo hoped to take revenge for the 68-53 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Several Syrupmakers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amari Powell, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Powell has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Keshen Spence was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Cairo's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Westover, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cairo on the road again on Saturday and play against Shaw at 5:30 p.m. on January 13th. Shaw will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. As for Westover, they will head out on the road to challenge Colquitt County at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Colquitt County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 359th, while Westover is ranked 156th).
