Basketball Recap: Key Rainey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Osbourn Park over Virginia Academy

It was fun while it lasted, but Osbourn Park's undefeated season came to an end after three games on Tuesday. They fell to the Virginia Academy Patriots 55-51. The loss was the Yellowjackets' first of the season.

Osbourn Park's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Key Rainey, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. The match was Rainey's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayel West, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points.

Even though they lost, Osbourn Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January.

Having lost for the first time this season, Osbourn Park fell to 3-1. As for Virginia Academy, the victory (which was their seventh in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0.

Osbourn Park will challenge Battlefield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Osbourn Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62 points per game this season. As for Virginia Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 63-50 win against Mt. Zion Prep Academy on the 12th.
