Baseball Recap: Friday's Victory Is New Haven's Fifth in Last Six Outings

After only two runs in their last contest, New Haven made sure to put some runs up on the board against Sterling Heights on Friday. The Rockets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Stallions a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Rockets have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Abuan and Kaden Gilbert were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Abuan tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gilbert tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Abuan went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Gilbert went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. New Haven is undefeated when Gilbert posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Will Bosco was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamar Pearson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

New Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

New Haven is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sterling Heights, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Haven will venture away from home to square off against Mott at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Sterling Heights, they will challenge Clawson at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
