Basketball Recap: Wakefield Takes a Loss

If Wakefield was riding high fresh off their 69-26 takedown of Lyons-Decatur Northeast last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wakefield Trojans fell 65-56 to the Winnebago Indians on Tuesday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Wakefield lost, don't look at Cael Johnson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Johnson a new career-high in steals (eight). Jacob Borg was another key player, going 5-for-12 en route to 10 points and four steals.

Wakefield's record now sits at 11-9. As for Winnebago, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season.

Coming up, Wakefield will square off against Homer at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. Winnebago has already played their next match (against Santee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
