Softball Game Preview: Robinson Rams vs. West Springfield Spartans

The Robinson Rams will square off against the West Springfield Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

On Friday, Robinson came up short against South County and fell 7-2.

Robinson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Gilbert, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, West Springfield made sure to put some runs up on the board against Woodson on Friday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Andrea Yagui spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kate Middendorf was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alexa Harvey, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

West Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodson only posted an OBP of .280.

West Springfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Robinson, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
