League recap: No. 1 Durham takes down No. 2 Willows

Sacramento Valley league recap: 5/7/12

The league's top two teams in the standings locked horns this week, as Durham took home a 9-8 victory over Willows on May 1, 2012. Durham leads Sacramento Valley with a 9-0 record, and has an overall record of 15-1.

The Trojans (15-1, 9-0) are riding a league-best 9-game winning streak. The streak was extended by another 3 games over the past week, includinga 9-8 victory over Willows and a 14-4 win over Colusa.

Colusa's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 30 hits and 13 walks to lead the league in both categories. The RedHawks have given up a mere 132 hits on the year in addition to compiling 101 strikeouts. Ross Cervantes is the leader in that category with 28 Ks on the season.

Colusa's Cyrus Yerxa finished his week with seven hits, tops in the league. His 21 hits for the year are seventh in the league, and he boasts a .323 batting average.
