The Westmoor Rams will head out to face off against the South San Francisco Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Westmoor's victory against Jefferson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams skirted past the Grizzlies 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since April 25, 2024.
Jeremy Zhang looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matthew Cote, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Westmoor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, South San Francisco entered their tilt with Crystal Springs Uplands on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Gryphons get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Considering the Warriors have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Giovanni Bernal made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Vince Bernal was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
South San Francisco pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Westmoor, their record now sits at 7-3.
Westmoor skirted past South San Francisco 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
