Baseball Recap: Massena Gets the Win

Massena won the last time they faced Franklin Academy and things went their way on Monday too. The Red Raiders walked away with an 11-6 win over the Huskies.

Marcus Firnstein made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Massena's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jakob Page was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. Massena is undefeated when Page posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Gavin Mitchell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Massena's record now sits at 6-3. As for Franklin Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-4 record.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Massena is set to challenge their familiar foe Ogdensburg Free Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Franklin Academy will take on rival Gouverneur at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
