Despite the defeat, Calhoun County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cassidy Pough dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pough has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Raniya Tyler, who posted eight points in addition to seven boards and five steals.
Meanwhile, Lake Marion came tearing into Friday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 52-25 win over the Wolves. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 27 points or more this season.
Lake Marion's win came from a few key players Calhoun County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zimarika Moorer, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Teonna Allen, who put up 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals.
Lake Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Lake Marion pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Calhoun County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Calhoun County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Lake Marion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
