Piper Roberts made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Kenley Venoy was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Karsyn Botefuhr also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Hermiston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Hanford waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Lions 17-8.
Hanford got a massive performance out of Neve Jimenez, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits Jimenez has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Haylee Velasco, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-6.
The win made it two in a row for Hermiston and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Hanford, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hermiston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .461. However, it's not like Hanford struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hermiston suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Hanford when the teams last played on Tuesday. Can Hermiston avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
