Goreville is a perfect 7-0 against Galatia/Thompsonville since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Blackcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. Goreville has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Goreville managed to slip by Zeigler-Royalton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Blackcats lost 12-3 to the Tornadoes on Thursday. The Blackcats' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Elisabeth Trainor made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Trainor, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Galatia/Thompsonville had just enough and edged out Pope County 6-4 on Friday. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Lanie Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Laney Adams, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Galatia/Thompsonville pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Goreville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Goreville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Galatia/Thompsonville struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
