Softball Recap: Martinsville Pirates vs. Beckville Bearcats

Martinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They suffered a rough 18-6 defeat at the hands of the Beckville Bearcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Martinsville of the 12-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March.

Rebecca Adams made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

On Beckville's side, Bethany Grandgeorge was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Grandgeorge has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. Grandgeorge was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Beckville got a massive performance out of Emily Grandgeorge, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Lexi Barr was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Martinsville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Beckville, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5-2 record this season.
