Softball Recap: Hillsboro's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Hillsboro had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-8 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Vandalia Vandals by a score of 5-0. That's more bragging rights for the Hiltoppers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The result came thanks to Lainey Lessman's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Peyton Chappelear was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Briley Kirby, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Vandalia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Vandalia's side, Madison Lupton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

Hillsboro didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-2 defeat against Greenville on the 22nd. As for Vandalia, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 4-0 loss against North Mac on the 22nd.
