Baseball Recap: Mercer County Gets the Win

Mercer County came out on top against Paul Laurence Dunbar on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Titans walked away with a 9-6 win over the Bulldogs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-11 back in March.

Jackson Doughty was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Mercer County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 12-14 when he doesn't).

Mercer County's victory bumped their record up to 17-14. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 18 of their last 20 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-23 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercer County will challenge Western Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, they will face off against Boyd County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
