McDonald waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Kirtland Hornets a 10-0 shutout.
Aubrey Evans was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Gianna Mancini was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Miley Titus was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
McDonald always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kirtland only posted an OBP of .273.
McDonald's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kirtland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
