Basketball Recap: Sumner Takes a Loss

Sumner played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Springfield Bulldogs 72-40. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 345th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 154th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Springfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dequane Davis, who went 8 for 10 on his way to 18 points and three steals. Davis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last 14 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Rowen Harris, who went 5 of 12 en route to 18 points.

Sumner has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which is still a better percentage than their 4-14 record this season. As for Springfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumner will face off against East Feliciana at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Springfield, they will square off against Holden at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season.
