Softball Recap: Las Cruces Has No Trouble Against Gadsden

While Las Cruces put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Gadsden. The Bulldawgs blew past the Panthers 12-0. Considering the Bulldawgs have won eight contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaia Renteria was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Adriana Pena was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zaysha Hawkins, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Las Cruces was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Las Cruces and bumps their season record up to 11-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Gadsden, they dropped their record down to 5-10 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Las Cruces will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
