Football Recap: Vista Del Lago Falls Despite Big Games from Jae'lynn Brown and Josiah Dupree-Boyd

Vista del Lago dropped to 5-3 on Thursday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They came up short against the Orange Vista Coyotes, falling 38-14. While losing is never fun, the Ravens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Coyotes are ranked 144th).

Vista del Lago's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Josiah Dupree-Boyd, who rushed for 46 yards and two TDs, and Jae'Lynn Brown, who picked up 133 receiving yards. Brown showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 50 yards.

Even if they lost, Vista del Lago's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Romeo Baldwin, Jordyn Edwards, and Brandon Price, who each picked up one sack apiece. Vista del Lago got some further help from Baldwin: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles.

As for Orange Vista, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.8 points over those games.

Khalil Abdul-Aziz went supernova, throwing for 379 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.1% of his passes, and also punching in one rushing score. Those 379 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Traycee Washington did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 83 receiving yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Vista del Lago will face off against Paloma Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dupree-Boyd and Orlando Gonzalez. As for Orange Vista, they will take on JW North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Coyotes will be up against the Huskies' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
