Basketball Recap: Gainesville Comes Up Short

Gainesville suffered their closest loss since November 9, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Aubrey Chaparrals by a score of 62-59. While losing is never fun, the Leopards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while the Chaparrals are ranked 156th).

Gainesville dropped their record down to 17-13 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Aubrey, Sanger, and Panther Creek. As for Aubrey, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Gainesville will challenge Panther Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Panther Creek will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Gainesville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Aubrey, they will square off against Sanger at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Aubrey's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last ten games.
