Recap: Seffner Christian Crusaders vs. Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars
The Seffner Christian Crusaders put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 74-59 win over Academy of the Holy Names. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Nicole Carreno, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The game was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jaslyn Easley, who scored 16 points.
Academy of the Holy Names lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Morgan Hunt, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Gavin, who scored 18 points.
Even though they lost, Academy of the Holy Names were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seffner Christian only racked up 20 assists.
Seffner Christian pushed their record up to 8-0 with that win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Academy of the Holy Names, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Seffner Christian will be home for the holidays to greet Riverview Sarasota at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverview Sarasota knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Seffner Christian likes a good challenge. As for Academy of the Holy Names, they will head out on the road to face off against Gibbs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gibbs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Academy of the Holy Names is ranked 42nd).
