Softball Recap: Male Takes Down Ranked Assumption

Male faced Assumption in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Rockets 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

The team relied heavily on Kaylee Brooks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaden Nelson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Male's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Assumption, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 19-5.

Coming up, Male will venture away from home to take on Madison Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Assumption, they will welcome Bullitt East at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
