Hooks has gone 8-2 against De Kalb recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Hornets will square off against the Bears at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
De Kalb will be up against a hot Hooks team: the squad just extended their winning streak to ten. The Hornets put the hurt on Redwater with a sharp 17-6 win on Tuesday.
Zoey Greenwood was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Madison Lewis was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI.
Greenwood wasn't the only one making solid contact: Hooks kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, De Kalb's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let Queen City get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since March 19, 2021.
Kaydee Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Caylin Corbett was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Kailyn Betts also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
De Kalb has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hooks, they pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Hooks hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like De Kalb struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Hooks came out on top in a nail-biter against De Kalb in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
