Basketball Recap: Hanalani Takes Down Kohala in a Playoff Battle

Hanalani extended their postseason success on Friday against Kohala. They breezed by the Kohala Cowboys to the tune of 68-26. The win was nothing new for the Royals as they're now sitting on 20 straight.

Hanalani had a senior duo take command as Ellana Klemp almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds and Piha Akiona went 7 for 12 to rack up 16 points along with five boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Klemp a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Tamlyn Celestino, who posted five points and six steals.

Hanalani smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive contests.

Hanalani's victory bumped their record up to 26-4. As for Kohala, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.

Coming up, Hanalani and Hawaii Baptist Academy will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Kohala does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
